🦋Canon Abilities:

• Surgeon/Doctor Skills: What you would expect of a gothic medieval-inspired world’s surgeon to do. Occasionally there is magic involved, especially in regards to more serious cases. He does not use magic often however as the consequences can be dire.
• Necromancy: Skeller can raise the dead, but not truly. No one in his world can bring true life back to a corpse (aside from vampires, but that’s a whole different story), and so they function as mindless husks that can follow simple orders. It allows him to repel the undead and certain monsters as well. Though again, using these abilities does not come without consequences, not just physically but also socially. Sometimes necromancy is used in his medicine as well.
• He is physically very strong. Not Superman strong, I like to compare it to Jean Valjean from Les Misérables.
• Flight: He doesn’t actually know this one is possible. He’s puzzled over those wings for ages and finds them more of a pain in the ass than at all helpful. And truly, a bit of meta-gaming here, they aren’t big enough for powered flight. He could have a solid glide at most, but his bones are still too dense to do any more than that… for now. He could in theory use them as weapons but the less he thinks about them the better.

🦋Inventory:

• Cane: A grey wooden cane with eyes carved into the handle and runes carved down the sides. It bleeds when he uses magic.
• Necklace: A peridot on a string. It was his mother's.
• Surgeon's tools: The tools of the trade. Includes various knives, needles and a small but gnarly-looking bonesaw.
• Mask: A white, beaked leather mask with dark lenses. He is comfortable wearing it at all times, even sleeping. Anything to keep his face from view.
• Herbs and Rocks: Ingredients and components for medicine and magic.

Option 2:

Dead: Skeller has been surrounded by death since his youth. He lost his father young to an unknown illness and seeing doctors scratch their heads and ultimately give up is what led him to study medicine. Death became routine, though less so when he could help it. But the mysteries continued to plague him and the frustration grew- he delved into Old Medicine and his mentors warned him of the dangers of such things. Of course, he had no idea what he was truly dealing with and opened a rift between his world and a dimension unknowable to mortals, bringing about the deaths of his entire village. It led him to a man who taught him Reaper Magic properly (aka necromancy) and how to use it in his profession to heal rather than simply create walking husks as the reputation might suggest. Skeller is surrounded by death but the line between it and life looks blurrier every day.

Friendly: While his hulking, silent presence and expressionless, hidden face may suggest otherwise, Skeller is quite a gentle soul. He’s a bit shy to open up to strangers but secretly loves to make a friend even if he still has to be guarded with certain things. One of his oldest friends, a fellow Reaper named Taair who lives near the coast, brings an energy out of Skeller few can. They pick at eachother like an old married couple and he’s one of very few people who can actually get Skeller to laugh. Skeller has a track record for having decent bedside manner and he strives to make his patients feel safe even if he himself is a bit scary-looking. Being adopted by the fae might actually be what he needs right now to open up a bit, even if the details sound a bit iffy.

Dance: It’s been years since Skeller has danced. As a young man he loved to party and could jump and spin with the best of them. Nowadays, the most you’ll get out of him is a toe-tap but deep down he wishes he could join in the nearby yearly festivities like he used to. In dancing he sees freedom, but he also sees his own hubris. How many times had he indulged a little too much and gone straight from celebrating into a petty fight? Much of what he remembers from those days were the times he ruined by taking that freedom for granted. Maybe someday he’ll dance again. Maybe it won’t be alone.

Needle: Skeller’s mother was the one who taught him to sew- to repair his clothes and occasionally make them himself. Hold the needle, treat it like an extension of the hand. This meditative process has carried over into his practice also, as well as his hobbies. He has a very steady hand and though it’s not always fun for a patient, his stitches are clean and consistent. Aside from work, he still takes enjoyment from darning, patching and occasionally simple embroidery. The thick curtains over the windows in his home have a little design along the borders- a cute little detail for those who care to look. To Skeller, the needle is a symbol of reparation, by flesh or fabric, even if it’s through pain.

Fall: Skeller has wings. Surprise! They are stored in pockets on his back, where the slits in his skin are normally sealed shut with a set of jagged teeth. The process of using them is… complicated. While stored away they are naked like a baby bird, but when he is stressed enough or in the right sort of danger, they unfurl and grow feathers. It takes a lot out of him in the aftermath when it’s time for all the feathers to fall off and said wings to be put away. He’s only tried to use them once so far. “Tried” isn’t the right word, maybe. When he walked up on a bear with her cubs in the woods by mistake he was forced to flee and the appearance of such wings that before then had never done anything besides lay dormant and itch (aside from when they first grew in which is another story entirely), he was so surprised that instead of actually trying to use them he was carried on the wind like a flailing, screaming kite before falling into a river. While he was able to climb to shore easily and the bear was too startled she decided he wasn’t worth the trouble, he has refused to experiment with them since. There’s no way they could get him off the ground… right?

Flower: Skeller has a few different pastimes, one of them being gardening. One of the creatures that doesn’t mind him are insects, for the most part. He grows vegetables and herbs for food and medicine but his favorite time of year is when everything buds and flowers. The bees and butterflies come out in droves, not just for his own garden but for the miles and miles of wildflowers that overtake the plains around his home. Very, very occasionally, in the dead of night he will lie in the tall grass among them and watch the fireflies until he cannot tell them apart from the stars.

Cow: Animals are often wary of Skeller. Whether it’s his smell or the way he moves or just his vibe, dogs bark at him, livestock give him the side-eye and it’s been years since he’s ridden a horse. Still, he enjoys watching farmers move their sheep and cows from field to field, driving them up into the mountains in the spring and down into the valley in the fall. The closest he’s come to a cow since he was young has been their hides, once of which he lays across the floor of his living area for warmth. The fur on his bare feet make him wonder what it would be like to lean up against one on a summer’s evening, dozing under the stars.
