What is an Oracle Tile?

Oracle Tiles are just that- tiles that can tell the future, reveal something about your character/the world around them and help with decision-making. They are Archus' (Dr. Skeller's homeworld) version of Earth's Tarot cards. They're great for getting inside a character's head or if you need inspiration.

Figured I’d make a more comprehensive list of things I’m interested in and things I’m not so interested in. If you have any questions please let me know! I love writing smut and Skeller’s great if you like a good monster fuck or want to do shit to someone.

First off, let’s talk anatomy and erogenous zones. Skeller’s ref sheet can be found here and here (for the nsfw version). His dick is spiked like a cat’s and those quills only get pretty grabby when he’s fully aroused. They allow for a little motion and some shallow thrusting when all the way in, though pulling out before his body decides it’s ready can be difficult and painful. He can be rougher but his partner will definitely be sore and in some cases even bleed. It’s why he’s sworn off giving penetrative sex or receiving oral… with mortals. He hasn’t met someone who can heal themself and isn’t phased by or even enjoys the pain aspect, so that could be fun to play with. He does also love to bottom and likes it a little rough. A Complete History of Dr. Skeller
(Go no further if you prefer not to metagame)

Dr. Henrik Skeller is just that- a doctor hailing from the middle of nowhere in his home country of Archus. He lives in the midst of several small villages and often sees patients with serious or mysterious enough ailments to warrant coming all the way out (sometimes several miles) to his cottage for help. The rumors are that he’s a Reaper- a practitioner of a long-forgotten magic capable of summoning ghosts and devils, and that no one has ever seen his face. Still, he is as good as they say at his profession and so most who rely on him for care don’t seem to mind, even if their animal companions do not share the same sentiment. He has recently taken on an apprentice, a young Victor Fennis who carries a dark secret or two of his own.

He’s a softspoken man, a bit shy and very private about his personal life. He enjoys gardening and a good nap.

Yes, Dr. Skeller does dress in typical plague doctor attire but it does have a purpose within his world. And now we get into the meat and potatoes of it.

Skeller was born and raised in one of these small nearby villages. He had two sisters, Helene and Seren and his mother. His father died when he was young of a mysterious illness, and the confusion and frustration watching the local doctors give up because they had no answers led him headfirst into a career in medicine. He balanced his studies with helping raise his two sisters, eventually heading off to a clinic miles away to complete his training. When he returned, things were… different. He’d always had a stubbornness in him, but something sparkled in those eyes that could only mean trouble. While away, a colleague gave him a taste of what was believed in many regions to be a lost practice- lost because of its taboo nature. Reaper magic- a combination of necromancy and medicine said to be able to heal beyond what was thought possible. The Reapers were thought to have been wiped out alongside the traditional necromancers long ago, when mortal men saw fit to reach beyond the veil and bend the dead to their will to cause chaos and destruction. For the time being it lurked in the back of his mind…

Until the same illness came for his sister.

Nothing he did could save her, and so he turned to what he’d learned in that boyish exploration of the forbidden during his studies abroad. But he didn’t have all of the pieces, nor did he understand where the magic comes from. But he would do anything to save Seren, and so in the dead of night he set up a ritual in her bedroom while she slept, listening to her struggle to breathe while he carefully painted his body and the room with sigils, laid out every ingredient he could remember…

Once the door was open- a door he never wanted to breach, all hell broke loose. Something came through the veil that night. Or maybe it was something further than the veil. A force he can neither describe nor fully remember. But it wreaked havoc on the landscape, for miles and miles it stretched out and devoured any warm body it could get its countless talons on.

Except for Skeller. Somehow, he’d protected himself with the ritual circle he’d put himself in. But as he awoke to absolute silence, with nothing left but the roaming *Corvon picking at the few bodies left behind, it slowly dawned on him what he’d done. He was surrounded by feathers, dark and sleek and flickering in and out of existence. As he wandered in shock he came upon a woman lurking in the thick fog who he initially mistook for one of the scavenging creatures because of her beaked mask and dark clothing. He had nowhere to go now and she knew what he’d done by the strange shimmering in the atmosphere. Maybe it was fate that they met. Skeller isn’t sure he believes in fate.

She took him in, bringing him to her cottage where he nearly died over the course of three months- the consequences of his actions were apparent once the pin feathers started sprouting and a new set of teeth grew in where his human ones had all fallen out. Still the woman was patient, using the very magic he’d sought and failed to wield to keep him alive. She agreed to teach him Reaper Magic properly, and he vowed that if he survived, he would use it only to help others. Between bouts of being violently ill, he studied and once he’d recovered enough, he studied harder. But he never seemed to fully recover. After each practiced ritual and procedure, he would find himself feverish, always with a few more feathers or a part of his body shaped differently from how it was before. The magic was changing him. He reached beyond the veil for his power and the veil reached back, and they pulled at eachother a little more every time. Still, he was not swayed.

He stayed the woman’s (platonic) companion for many years. Protection and conduit sigils and circles were inscribed on his body, like hers, so he would not summon something by accident like before. He got better at it and once she deemed him ready, she sent him away and forbade him to return, saying something along the lines of “go be useful.”

But living among normal people wasn’t going to be possible, so he settled down in an area only a few short miles away from a handful of small villages and fell into his current routine. It’s one he knows will kill him someday (or so he thinks, in reality he may just be turning into an eldritch bird monster), but he’ll work until he can’t any longer. Eventually, he gained a surprise apprentice in the form of Victor Fennis, a fully-fledged doctor on corrective probation after what he claims was a “nervous breakdown”, which resulted in the death of a patient. Sensing something supernatural was afoot, he was sent to Skeller to “sort himself out”. It took time for the pair to accept their situation but since then they’ve grown fond of one another. Victor knows Skeller’s ugly and Skeller knows Victor has visions and episodes for a reason they cannot yet deduce. And that’s about where it ends in terms of relevancy for the game!

*Corvon are an original species of mine- they resemble large birds (think ostrich sized) with skull-like faces that follow the scent of death and are frequently seen where mass casualties have occurred. They are the cleanup crew of the country. Reapers sometimes follow these flocks to see if there are any survivors, wearing white beaked masks and dark clothing to blend in. Generally the Corvon don’t see living beings as food and have poor vision (the eyes are small and sunken into the face to protect them from bright light), but it’s better to be on the safe side since a normal living person may make them nervous and drive them away from their desired target.

Magical Information: He may be human-shaped, but something about him is Very Off. Normal animals tend to feel uneasy around him.
Medical Information: He’s a bit of an anatomical nightmare. He is often bruised and discolored from things shifting around and there are small feathers beginning to grow from his skin, densest where his facial and body hair would be. His teeth are sharp and he has an underbite, and on his back are two pockets held closed by teeth which house a pair of wings, just large enough to glide. The wings themselves are naked in those pockets, and he himself does not know how to “activate” them. It has only happened once so far, when they first appeared.
Offensive Subjects & Triggers Associated with This Character: Body horror, drug use (psychedelics mostly, he uses them for rituals), mass murder, mental illness (depression, ptsd, body dysmorphia), chronic pain/illness, sexual dysfunction, potential discussion of suicide and self harm. All of this can be toned way down if need be, I just wanted to cover all the bases.

🦋Canon Abilities:

Surgeon/Doctor Skills: What you would expect of a gothic medieval-inspired world’s surgeon to do. Occasionally there is magic involved, especially in regards to more serious cases. He does not use magic often however as the consequences can be dire.
Necromancy: Skeller can raise the dead, but not truly. No one in his world can bring true life back to a corpse (aside from vampires, but that’s a whole different story), and so they function as mindless husks that can follow simple orders. It allows him to repel the undead and certain monsters as well. Though again, using these abilities does not come without consequences, not just physically but also socially. Sometimes necromancy is used in his medicine as well.
He is physically very strong. Not Superman strong, I like to compare it to Jean Valjean from Les Misérables.
~~Flight~~: He doesn’t actually know this one is possible. He’s puzzled over those wings for ages and finds them more of a pain in the ass than at all helpful. And truly, a bit of meta-gaming here, they aren’t big enough for powered flight. He could have a solid glide at most, but his bones are still too dense to do any more than that… for now. He could in theory use them as weapons but the less he thinks about them the better.

Cane: A grey wooden cane with eyes carved into the handle and runes carved down the sides. It bleeds when he uses magic.
Necklace: A peridot on a string. It was his mother's.
Surgeon's tools: The tools of the trade. Includes various knives, needles and a small but gnarly-looking bonesaw.
Mask: A white, beaked leather mask with dark lenses. He is comfortable wearing it at all times, even sleeping. Anything to keep his face from view.
Herbs and Rocks: Ingredients and components for medicine and magic.

Option 2:

Dead: Skeller has been surrounded by death since his youth. He lost his father young to an unknown illness and seeing doctors scratch their heads and ultimately give up is what led him to study medicine. Death became routine, though less so when he could help it. But the mysteries continued to plague him and the frustration grew- he delved into Old Medicine and his mentors warned him of the dangers of such things. Of course, he had no idea what he was truly dealing with and opened a rift between his world and a dimension unknowable to mortals, bringing about the deaths of his entire village. It led him to a man who taught him Reaper Magic properly (aka necromancy) and how to use it in his profession to heal rather than simply create walking husks as the reputation might suggest. Skeller is surrounded by death but the line between it and life looks blurrier every day.

Friendly: While his hulking, silent presence and expressionless, hidden face may suggest otherwise, Skeller is quite a gentle soul. He’s a bit shy to open up to strangers but secretly loves to make a friend even if he still has to be guarded with certain things. One of his oldest friends, a fellow Reaper named Taair who lives near the coast, brings an energy out of Skeller few can. They pick at eachother like an old married couple and he’s one of very few people who can actually get Skeller to laugh. Skeller has a track record for having decent bedside manner and he strives to make his patients feel safe even if he himself is a bit scary-looking. Being adopted by the fae might actually be what he needs right now to open up a bit, even if the details sound a bit iffy.

Dance: It’s been years since Skeller has danced. As a young man he loved to party and could jump and spin with the best of them. Nowadays, the most you’ll get out of him is a toe-tap but deep down he wishes he could join in the nearby yearly festivities like he used to. In dancing he sees freedom, but he also sees his own hubris. How many times had he indulged a little too much and gone straight from celebrating into a petty fight? Much of what he remembers from those days were the times he ruined by taking that freedom for granted. Maybe someday he’ll dance again. Maybe it won’t be alone.

Needle: Skeller’s mother was the one who taught him to sew- to repair his clothes and occasionally make them himself. Hold the needle, treat it like an extension of the hand. This meditative process has carried over into his practice also, as well as his hobbies. He has a very steady hand and though it’s not always fun for a patient, his stitches are clean and consistent. Aside from work, he still takes enjoyment from darning, patching and occasionally simple embroidery. The thick curtains over the windows in his home have a little design along the borders- a cute little detail for those who care to look. To Skeller, the needle is a symbol of reparation, by flesh or fabric, even if it’s through pain.

Fall: Skeller has wings. Surprise! They are stored in pockets on his back, where the slits in his skin are normally sealed shut with a set of jagged teeth. The process of using them is… complicated. While stored away they are naked like a baby bird, but when he is stressed enough or in the right sort of danger, they unfurl and grow feathers. It takes a lot out of him in the aftermath when it’s time for all the feathers to fall off and said wings to be put away. He’s only tried to use them once so far. “Tried” isn’t the right word, maybe. When he walked up on a bear with her cubs in the woods by mistake he was forced to flee and the appearance of such wings that before then had never done anything besides lay dormant and itch (aside from when they first grew in which is another story entirely), he was so surprised that instead of actually trying to use them he was carried on the wind like a flailing, screaming kite before falling into a river. While he was able to climb to shore easily and the bear was too startled she decided he wasn’t worth the trouble, he has refused to experiment with them since. There’s no way they could get him off the ground… right?

Flower: Skeller has a few different pastimes, one of them being gardening. One of the creatures that doesn’t mind him are insects, for the most part. He grows vegetables and herbs for food and medicine but his favorite time of year is when everything buds and flowers. The bees and butterflies come out in droves, not just for his own garden but for the miles and miles of wildflowers that overtake the plains around his home. Very, very occasionally, in the dead of night he will lie in the tall grass among them and watch the fireflies until he cannot tell them apart from the stars.

Cow: Animals are often wary of Skeller. Whether it’s his smell or the way he moves or just his vibe, dogs bark at him, livestock give him the side-eye and it’s been years since he’s ridden a horse. Still, he enjoys watching farmers move their sheep and cows from field to field, driving them up into the mountains in the spring and down into the valley in the fall. The closest he’s come to a cow since he was young has been their hides, once of which he lays across the floor of his living area for warmth. The fur on his bare feet make him wonder what it would be like to lean up against one on a summer’s evening, dozing under the stars.

Both of these things take a lot of prep and energy depending on how complicated the goal is. Skeller is also very physically strong. Think Jean Valjean from Les Mis. He is a gentle soul though.
